Hey!

Yay, I've just added a Facebook Share button at the top right corner of each post.
This will allow you to share content right here from ronald-fong.com to your Facebook walls!
From the pop-up window, you may choose the thumbnails you want to display on your wall!

It's really easy!
I'm thinking of implementing this throughout the whole site but I'm trying it out first to make sure it works well.
Give it a try and please let me know of any glitches! :D

Hey there! :D

I've been to the Pixar: 20 Years of Animation recently!!
I went with a few of my friends, who are by no means related to the animation industry, in order to enjoy the exhibition in the perspective of the "general public" I'm actually surprised by their interest and curiosity.

Upon entering the exhibition hall, we were first greeted with the timeline of Pixar's feature films and awards. I took time to read the snippets of texts on the walls. I'm once again reminded that it's the same few geniuses behind all the fantastic filmography and technology we see today, namely George Lucas, John Lasseter, Ed Catmull and Steve Jobs.

I see that Pixar has this unspoken philosophy of making a technological breakthrough in every film. Like CG Fur in Monster, CG Water in Finding Nemo etc.

There were many Wonderful sculptures and character studies at the exhibition some of which I think are totally bizzare! :P One of my favourite exhibits is the Toy Story Zoetrope! It really feels as if all the toys came alive!

Overall, the exhibition could do with more animation. My friends say they like to see things move! Well, I guess it's more like a museum this time round.

I can see that Pixar has achieved a lot in the past two decades and will definitely crave to see more touching animated features from them. Keep up the good work Pixar!

Hello!

Sometimes when working on projects and schedule is tight we have to adopt this approach. So I quickly whipped up this design to set as a wallpaper to remind myself.

Sometimes, so long as the result looks good, it doesn't matter how we get to it. Meaning we should often try to save time by "cheating" during the compositing stage - not everything has to be strictly a real 3D element rendered from the software package. Well, I like to think of it more like working smart! =)

NYP SIDM Fusion X 2010!

I visited the annual NYP SIDM Graduation Show, Fusion, a few weeks ago.
And I loved the atmosphere!

Fusion, to me, is a celebration and recognition for all the hard work students have put in through their course of study.
I'm glad that the graduates are proud and happy to be showing their work! :)

I saw some works with super potential in visual effects, character animation and not forgetting motion graphics. Mandl and Rifyal has good character animation to showcase, as well as Nigel and Marcus Lee in terms of concept art and illustrations.
It's the first batch of graduates for the Motion Graphics and Broadcast Design (MGBD) and I was looking forward to see their works.

It was great training to have industrial projects as their assignments for the MGBD graduates.
I had the opportunity to have a chat with some of the MGBD graduates, in particular, the Anomalyst - Jed, Chad, Mus and Ben.

They have a strong portfolio of industrial standard.
I really like their drive and motivation towards their creations and reaching out to clients with their works.
There is a lot of potential in this 4-man collaboration and I believe they will go far as they continue to stick to their goals.

I went back to Nanyang Polytechnic a few weeks ago.

Visited my juniors who are currently preparing for their Fusion Graduation Show 2010. It's really heartening to see them doing well.

I had the chance to watch a few of the Final Year Projects that they have produced and I was impressed by them. Overall, the renderings has significantly improved.

I will like to specially mention An Jun and Ling Yang's team because I personally feel that they have successfully created a short film that is slightly long in duration but entertaining throughout. The best part is that I was told they had proper planning so they managed to finish the production phase of the whole short film in 2 weeks!

Congratulations!
See you guys at Fusion 2010 - X Factor Unearthed!

Dear Visitors,

For of you may be curious why this sudden change, my blog service provider has announced that it's FTP Publishing will no longer be supported after 1 May, 2010. Therefore, I migrated my blog over to this subdomain. In my opinion, Blogger has done well in easing the migration process by providing a FTP Migration Tool.

With this, I'm sure I'll have to make more changes to this website over the next month to ensure everything works smoothly.

Thank you for updating your feeds and bookmarks!

Cheers!

Here's a list of the best places to study 3D animation in the world.
This ranking table is from 3D World's 98th issue.

1 Supinfocom
2 Filmakademie Baden-Wuertemmberg
3 Gobelins, L’école de l’image
4 Ringling College of Art and Design
5 Vancouver Film School
6 Ecole National Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs
7 Royal College of Art
8 Bournemouth University, NCCA
9 University of Southern California
10 Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning
11 CalArts School of Film/Video
12 National Film and Television School
13 Ecole Emile Cohl
14 Savannah College of Art and Design
15 School of Visual Arts
16 University of Wales
17 Ecole Supérieure des Métiers Artistiques
18 University of Teesside
19 RMIT Univeristy
20 Rhode Island School of Design

I've got friends studying in Supinfocom and Ringling and I'm so happy for them!

I have been to Gobelins before and hence I'm so happy and excited for them to be amongst the top three! Gobelins, L’école de l’image has a superb learning environment, teaching force, and technical assistance such that I could focus thouroughly on character animation!

I have also always been very impressed by student works from Ecole Emile Cohl (EEC).
It goes to show that these 20 schools listed are really of superb quality!

I hope one day Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Interactive and Digital Media can be amongst these! Jiayou! (;

Click [here] to find out how they compiled this ranking ;)
